Obituary for Jean Fee

Jean Lucy Kerfoot Fee was born April 29, 1937 on a small ranch in Western Alberta Canada near the city of Cochrane. There she grew up with her parents Percy and Lucy, sister Tannis and brother Alec (Red). It seems she was born riding a horse and always rode until she physically could no longer. She was educated thru a series of correspondence courses and finally a small school for the ranch children about 6 miles from her home. She and her siblings rode to school on horseback. When she finished high school, she attended Calgary General Hospital, a learning hospital where she received her education in nursing and became an R.N. When she left CGH she left her home in Western Canada and travelled across a continent to another country and a completely different culture to Eastern KY to be trained by and work for FNS as a Nurse Midwife. During her tenure there she met Phillip R. Fee...they dated and apparently fell in love, because when she left to go back home and "think about it", he followed a short time later......because she had "thought long enough". He left his home in Eastern KY and travelled across a continent to another country and a completely different culture in Western Canada to be with her. They were married December 15, 1962 and lived in Okotoks, Alberta for 10 years where he was a barber and she a nurse for the local health department and for Turner Valley District Hospital. They decided to move back to his home in Eastern Kentucky in 1973 and settled in McKee where Phillip had family living. He again took to the barber chair, and she to a local doctor named Peterson. She worked there for many years and then to Manchester Hospital and then to White House Clinic from which she retired after Phillip died. Jean always maintained a very close and hands-on relationship with Frontier Nursing Service and received an Honorary Doctorate based on her years for service in the nursing field and her early involvement with the development of the Family Nurse Practitioner field in KY. She was among the first to become a Family Nurse Practitioner in the state. Jean lived her life to the fullest; throwing herself whole heartedly into everything she attempted. She loved her Lord, her family and her friends. She lived her life by grace of God and died by the grace of God; in her home and peacefully.
Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Fee Golden and her husband James of McKee and Paddy Fee of Lexington; sister, Tannis Morris and her husband Wayne of White Rock, British Columbia, Canada; brother, Alec (Red) Kerfoot and his wife Carol of Calgary, Alberta Canada. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Jessica Daugherty Peters and her husband Derrick, James Travis Madden, Kyra Madden Brookshire and her husband Chad and Caleb H. Morris and by six great grandchildren, John, Bella, Gunner, Hunter, Owen and Connor; three nephews, one niece along with their extended family.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Percy & Lucy Kerfoot and by her husband, Phillip Fee.
